ABC's of First Grade

A is for arrival. Students should arrive at school no later than 7: 40. Having your child to school on time really gets the day off to a great start.

B is for birthdays. If you would like to send a birthday treat, please make sure it is store bought.  You may drop it off in the office and we will have it at the end of the day.

C is for conference time. My conference time is from 12:00-12:55. Parent Conferences will be held the first week of October. You will be receiving more information about signing up for a conference soon. Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions before then.

D is for dismissal. School ends at 3:00 p.m. If, for any reason, your child’s way of going home changes, you MUST contact the office by 2: 00 p.m. If you send me an email for transportation changes in the middle of the day, chances are I may not receive it before dismissal time. You can now email all attendance notes and ride changes to sreattendanceandridechanges@nisdtx.org

E is for email. Please email me whenever you need. I can usually reply faster than by phone.

F is for folder. Please have your child bring his or her take home folder, guided reading books, and library books to school every day. Please make sure you look inside and initial your child’s behavior calendar, and empty out papers each day. .   

G is for getting plenty of sleep.  It is suggested that a young child needs 10 to 12 hours of sleep each night to stay healthier and to perform better at school.

H is for healthy snacks. Please send nutritious snacks (veggies, fruit, granola bars, etc.). Also, please don’t send snacks that require utensils or refrigeration.

I is for invitations. Please only send in birthday invitations if you are able to invite the entire class. We don’t want any hurt feelings.

J is for jackets. Please make sure your child’s name is on jackets, as well as on their lunchbox, backpack, etc.

K is for kids. Kids are my number one priority! I will take care of your child and teach your child to the very best of my ability.

L is for lunch. First grade goes to lunch from 11:00-11:30. You are welcome to come eat with only your child at the designated lunch table except on STAAR testing days.  Please remember the same rules apply for all students whether they are eating with their class or their parents.    

M is for money for lunch. Please prepay for the week or month by going online to add money to your child’s personal account. You may also send in a check or cash to school in the morning.  I will send it down to the cafeteria.

N is for notes. Please place any notes you are sending in your child’s folder and be sure to let your child know you are sending something that needs to be given to the teacher.  

O is for office. If your child is absent from school, please call the office or email Katie Delgado.  Also, remember to always sign in at the front desk in the office when you are at Sendera visiting.

P is for parties. The district policy allows for 2 class parties a year:  Winter and Valentine’s Day. We will send out a SignUp Genius for volunteers and party items. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Q is for questions. If you have any questions—just ask!  I will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible. Sending me an email works well.

R is for being responsible and respectful. As a first grader, I want to help your child become more responsible and show respect to others.

S is school zone. Please be mindful that cell phone use is prohibited by law during drop-off and pick-up. Please help us keep our kids safe!

T is for tardiness. Please make sure your child is on time each day. The tardy bell rings at 7:45.  Being at school on time really gets their day started right.  

U is for understand. We want your child to understand that he or she is responsible for his or her own actions.

V is for volunteer. We appreciate the help and support you give us throughout the year.  Please go towww.nisdtx.org to complete an online background check. It takes a couple of weeks to process and must be redone each year if you are planning to volunteer in the classroom, attend field trips, and come to class parties.

W is for working together. We will work together to make your child’s first grade experience a successful one.

X is for x-tra. Your child is x-tra special and I’m excited to have him or her in my class this year.

YZ is for how each year zips by. We need to celebrate each day!
